THE WATERWOOD NATIONAL RESORT – IS IT A TEXAS ICON?

In order to understand what “Texas icon” really means, it’s important to gain a good understanding of Texas culture. There are many aspects about Texas that some either find extremely interesting or appealing while others view as outright unattractive altogether. The Waterwood National Resort has mixed reviews, but for those who know what Texas is all about, it is without question representative of the Lone Star State as far as friendliness, hospitality, and yes, “frontier” standards. In fact, it doesn’t even have a website. This is truly the “real deal” in the eyes of those who are looking for the increasingly hard to find “Texas experience”.

The 18-hole golf course is located in rural Huntsville and local reviews place it as the second most difficult course in the Houston area. Water hazards and sand bunkers are littered throughout the Bermuda grass course. A pond and picnic area add to the park’s appeal, giving visitors a unique glimpse of Texas wildlife. It’s not uncommon to see wild deer; they can be found all over the resort.

Lodging is available and provides an excellent (and romantic) view of a forested landscape. A weekend buffet is also offered at the resort’s dining facility and has received a great deal of praise. For those who wish to get away from “the big city” and retreat to a place where things are slow, relaxing, and quiet, the Waterwood National Resort gives visitors a chance to experience the Texas wilderness as it was meant to be. The kind of friendliness and hospitality found there is “par for the course” when experiencing Texas in its rawest and most welcoming form. Waterwood features everything that can be found in what is deemed to be unique to the Lone Star State and is therefore a Texas icon without question.
